Ihediwa Samuel Chibundu

Lecturer in the Department of Journalism, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) in Malaysia

Chediwa Samuel Chibundu is a lecturer in the Department of Journalism, Faculty of Arts and Social Science, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Perak state, Malaysia. He holds a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Media Studies from the University of Malaya (UM), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and is currently pursuing his PhD in Media Studies, also in UM.

In his native Nigeria, Ihediwa spent two years (1998-2000) as a news reporter with Rivers State Broadcasting Corporation (RSBC), after completing his Higher National Diploma in Mass Communication from the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu Nigeria. Between 2000 and 2004, he made a switch to the oil and gas industry where he worked as Administrative Officer with Adadrill Limited, a lifting inspection company in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Within the same period, he obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration from the University of Nigeria.

In July 2004, Ihediwa left Nigeria for Malaysia to further his studies in Media Studies, and joined the teaching staff of the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) in August 2009.

Among his research projects are: Investigative Journalism in Malaysia: A Study of two English Language Newspapers (MA Thesis), and Citizen Journalism: The Perception of Malaysian Publics towards citizen reporting. His current research is on crisis reporting in newspapers: A Comparative Analysis between Malaysia and Nigeria (PhD Thesis). He teaches news reporting and writing as well as feature writing in his university.
