Question: Tell us about the star of the show, Torri Higginson!
I think Torri's remarkable. I mean, I think, yeah, we saw many, many actresses, but we knew, we saw her first audition and we knew right away that she had the spirit of the woman we were looking for. She's got an incredible humanity. That's what we saw, and that's what audiences are going to see, it's just believable and real and surprising. The things that are funny, she makes funny, the things that are sad, she makes interesting. You know? And not maudlin. We're really lucky to have her.
Question: Who is in the rest of the cast?
Her older brother is played by Rick Roberts, audiences know Rick really well, really, really talented actor, really funny, interesting. Everything Rick does, all of his choices as an actor are always surprising. Her younger sister is played by Lauren Lee Smith. Same deal, all of our actors are like this. Her younger brother is played by Kristopher Turner, who a lot of audiences will know. Her parents are played by, her mother is Janet-Laine Green and her father is Peter MacNeill, so two actors who have tons of experience in television.
Question: What about casting Natalie's children?
We looked everywhere, trying to find sort of real, interesting, but really more than anything real, kids capable of delivering emotionally honest, complicated, serial performances. And so we have three kids: One who's 19, his name is James Wotherspoon. The middle child is 15, turning 16, and her character's name is Emma, and the actress' name is Stephanie Janusauskas. I may have mispronounced her last name, because it's a little tricky, but I'm close.
And their younger sister is played by a girl named Julia Scarlett Dan, Julia is 11, she's playing a 12-year-old. Finding an actress that young to carry, her part's a huge part, actually, all three kids have very, very big roles. And it was a whiz kid. Yes, she's a genius.
-Very peculiar kid.
And the actress is remarkable. We're excited about all three.
