Natalie's younger brother Oliver, 34, has lived his life like a man in hiding. When he came out to his parents at 15, they tried to accept him as best they could, but he chafed against even wanting their approval. A troubled young man, he fled Montreal to become a painter in Los Angeles, where he’s lived for over a decade with a much older boyfriend, in a complicated relationship that’s ended with the untimely death of his partner. Between his reliance on others as well as a tendency to get lost in himself – his career has never quite taken off. He has returned to Montreal to help Natalie navigate her health crisis, and has forged a strong bond with her youngest daughter Romy. Oliver is a private person, determined to try and make his own way and keep the messy details of his personal life to himself.
