ACTRA announced their acting award nominations Wednesday in Toronto, and one CBC star was at the top of their list!
Torri Higginson stars as Natalie Lawson in This Life, an original CBC series about a woman who learns her cancer returns. Higginson was nominated by ACTRA in the category “Nominees for Outstanding Performance - Female” for the series premiere episode, “Gut Punch.”
“I am insanely delighted, surprised, blown away and honoured!!” Higginson says.
“It was a huge gift having the chance to be part of this project: to work with all that remarkable talent; cast, crew and... the writing! On top of that… to be on a list of nova talent is boggling and to have that support and encouragement from my peers is heart blossoming.”
“Thank you to everyone at Sphere, CBC, Nouvelle adresse, and of course Joseph Kay.”
Higginson is best known for her portrayal of Dr. Elizabeth Weir on the Sci Fi Channel series Stargate Atlantis and her Gemini Award-winning role of Katherine on CTV’s The City.
Born in Burlington, Ontario, Higginson has divided her time between Canada, acting in shows such as The Cult, Dark Matter (recurring) and One Drop, and Los Angeles where she has seen continuing success in many guest starring roles on such television series as NCIS, Criminal Minds and Chase.
The 14th Annual ACTRA Toronto Awards will be held in February in Toronto, where the winners are revealed. ACTRA Toronto is the largest organization in ACTRA, which is a member-driven union of 22,000 professional performers working in Canada.
