The power of sports in transforming lives of young First Nations people

The North American Indigenous Games wrapped up yesterday (July 27th) in Regina. It's been a show of discipline and dedication from the young athletes. Derek Fox knows the lessons sport can teach, and how it how it can transform lives. He grew up in Bearskin Lake First Nation and went on to have a successful career in major junior and semi-pro hockey. Fox is now a lawyer in Thunder Bay. He shared his thoughts on the value of sports and why events like the Games matter, in an editorial recently posted for CBC News | Aboriginal. He spoke with guest host Cathy Alex.
