Deepa Mehta's new film 'Midnight's Children' is an adaptation of the Salman Rushdie novel and opens in theatres on Friday.

Religious extremism

George:You and Salman could have some really interesting conversations on what it's like to face the brunt of religious extemism because of your art.

Deepa: You know George, we never have. I think it's one of those things we take for granted.

That sort of empathetic relationship...there was no need to talk about or bemoan the fact on why we're being persecuted.

'Forrest Gump'

Deepa: Somebody said we saw Midnight's Children...what did you think?...oh it's Forrest Gump with brown people...Salman said I wrote ir before Tom Hanks even read the script!'
