When author Amy Tan was in the red chair to talk about her new book, The Valley of Amazement, the conversation took a decidedly rock 'n' roll turn. This, because George asked her about the Rock Bottom Remainders, a band she performed a song called "100 Shades of Tan" with in the past.
The Remainders, who were last seen performing together on the August 6, 2012 episode of The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, also feature other writers like Stephen King, Matt Groening, Dave Barry and Cynthia Heimel. The band's most recent concert took place in June 2012 at the annual conference of the American Library Association.
Tan says her musical career shouldn't be taken too seriously.
"This is fantasy. This is comedy. This is actually comedy," Tan says of her performance. "We give up our respect for charity to do this terrible thing. We're really sacrificing."
Amy Tan's interview with George airs Wednesday, December 4.
