That Time Canadian And U.S. Olympians Played Ball Hockey In Sochi
February 19, 2014

We're more than halfway through the Sochi Games now, which means a lot of athletes are finished competition. What are they to do with all their spare time? Play ball hockey, apparently. This afternoon, U.S. and Canadian athletes squared off in an epic game of street hockey on the pavement between Canada House and USA House. The Canadian team included silver medal-winning figure skater Patrick Chan and Gilmore Junio, who didn't manage to medal in speed skating but deserves a gold for team spirit. Canadian Chef de Mission Steve Podborski also showed up for a few shifts, and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman even dropped the puck. The game ended in a 4-4 tie... but really, we're all winners for it having happened at all. And be sure to catch the women's gold medal game between Canada and the U.S. at noon ET tomorrow and the men's semi-final between Canada and the U.S. on Friday at noon ET on CBC.
