Rap Signage Represents On The Streets Of NYC

Check the method: NYC may not be the centre of the rap universe anymore, but it's still a bright star.

And the city has featured as a character in some of rap's classic tracks.

Artist Jay Shells pays tribute to some of those hip-hop quotables with his project "Rap Quotes."

Shells is placing street signs around New York City featuring rap lyrics that mention a specific location.


For instance: Mos Def's lyric "I'm blacker than midnight at Broadway and Myrtle" is now a sign at the intersection of Broadway and Myrtle. Pretty awesome stuff.

Here's a video of Shells in action, tracking down the locations of all his signs and talking about the project.
