Isn’t Arcade Fire “Quebecois” Enough?

Arcade Fire won a Grammy and two Brit Awards. But organizers of Quebec's Fête Nationale say if the band ever wanted to play at the event, they'd have to sing in French.

That seems a bit unfair, especially since the band proudly represents Montreal and Quebec on the world stage. When they won the Grammy for album of the year, lead singer Win Butler (who grew up in Texas) gave a big shout out to Montreal. Maybe if they sang 'Une Année sans Lumière', organizers would change their tune. In that song, some of the lyrics are in French and some are in English. It's all hypothetical anyhow, since Arcade Fire is busy conquering the music world and touring Europe this summer. By the way, Quebec's Culture Minister disagrees with the festival organizers.
