Is That Sound An Axe Murderer Or An Alien? Nope, It’s Just A Cat

It's become something of a film and television cliché. That creepy sound the character just heard is not necessarily a killer lurking in the next room: as this supercut from Slacktory proves, it's often just a cat.

With scenes from horror movies like Friday the 13th Part II, science fiction shows like the original series of Star Trek and comedies like Community, the video proves that the "cat scare" has become a full-blown trope in popular culture.

But don't get too comfortable. Although the cat is probably not going to kill any of the humans who surprise it, a recent study found that cats in Canada can be quite the murderers — of birds, at least.
