Here's a new way of looking at some iconic musicians: these mosaics were created by artists Mirco Pagano and Moreno De Turco out of thousands of CDs, often using the actual albums of the artists depicted.
From a distance, they look like seamless paintings, but a close-up reveals the careful placement of disc art:
The artists, who were working with an ad agency on a campaign against internet piracy, created mosaics for a number of musical legends. Check out a few more below, and visit Enpundit to see the full collection.
If making using CDs to make pictures of musicians is a little too on the nose for you, how about these recreations of famous album covers using... socks? It's an odd idea, but for some reason it works. Odder still: no Red Hot Chili Peppers yet (if you don't get the reference, go ahead and Google it).
Here are some sock rock selections. Check out The Sock Covers Tumblr for more.
