Canadian Comedy Legend Mike MacDonald Needs Your Help

Mike MacDonald is known for being funny, but a medical condition is forcing him to be very serious indeed.

MacDonald is one of the most revered figures in Canadian stand-up, the only comic to appear at every Just For Laughs Gala ever held ... until this year, when complications from hepatitis C stole his livelihood. As his kidneys and liver have shut down, MacDonald has been unable first to travel, then to perform at all, leaving he and his family without income.

While MacDonald's health hinges on the appearance of a liver donor who shares his rare blood type (O Negative), the prognosis for his family is bright, thanks to the generosity of friends and fans across the country. A donation site has been set up in his name to support the MacDonalds in their time of need - you can visit the site right here. The original funding target was $10,000, but that was surpassed within two days, and Mike and his family are now well on their way to raising $30,000. There is no set "goal" amount - the website states "we are trying to raise as much money as possible to help him and his family".

Mike has also set up a Facebook page to track fundraising, and you can tweet about Mike's cause with the hashtag #HelpMikeMacDonald.
