Guest Wyclef Jean

So, how will history record Wyclef Jean?

To some, 'Clef is a hero: a street-fighter who rose from the slums of Haiti to help transform hip-hop music. A political figurehead, who gave voice to Haitian pride - and electrified Haitian politics with an ill-fated attempt to become the country's president.

To others, 'Clef is a more complicated figure. His presidential bid was publicly challenged by, among others, Sean Penn, while controversy surrounds his Yéle foundation which recently folded amid accusations of financial impropriety.

The foundation left behind a trail of unfinished projects in the wake of the 2010 Haitian earthquake.

Now, Wyclef is telling the story from his point of view. The gulf between himself and his father, his meteoric music career, and his tangled relationship with The Fugees' Lauryn Hill.

It's all laid out in his new memoir, 'Purpose: An Immigrant's Story.'
