Theo Fleury made a big impact as an NHL player: a Stanley Cup champion, a Gold Medal Olympian. But his significance goes well beyond the game:
In 2009, Theo revealed he had been sexually abused by his former hockey coach Graham James. It was a deep, dark secret he tried to bury. And it explained the drinking and drugs that had derailed his hockey career.
But once in treatment, Theo was moved by seven powerful words: 'You're only as sick as your secrets.'
It started his healing process, and, as an advocate for awareness of sexual abuse, Theo is launching a new initiative called The Victor Walk.
That's Victor, not victim. The goal: inspire Canadians to take a stand against what Theo feels is our justice system's leniency toward sexual predators.
