You say the name 'Microsoft', and most people think Bill Gates. But you know what?
On a day-to-day basis, this is the guy in charge - Steve Ballmer. You might have seen the CEO of the world's largest software company going ballistic on YouTube, but don't let his antics fool you. Ballmer is a smart guy - some would say a genius. And that big ol' brain has led to lots 'o dough. On Forbes' 2008 list of the World's Richest People, Steve ranked 43rd with more than 11 billion dollars to his name. So, how'd he become such a bigwig?Well, like Gates, Ballmer went to Harvard, and they quickly became friends. While Gates dropped out to create 'Microsoft', Ballmer graduated, and went to work for Proctor and Gamble. His officemate there was yet another big-name-to-be - Jeffrey Immelt, now CEO of General Electric. From there, Ballmer went back to school to get his MBA, but he never finished. In 1980, his old pal Gates came knocking and offered him a job at Microsoft. Over the next 20 years, Ballmer headed up a bunch of divisions - then in 2000, Gates stepped aside and Ballmer became Microsoft's top dog.
