Guest Paul Shaffer

Imagine a celebrity walking on to the set of 'The Late Show with David Letterman' in total silence. What's wrong with this picture? Oh, you know what's missing: one Mr. Paul Shaffer. Letterman without Shaffer is like Batman without Robin. Carson without Ed McMahon. IT MAKES NO SENSE.

Paul has been musical director on the Late Show (and Late Night before that) for 30 years and counting. It's a dream job for Paul, who grew up in Thunder Bay in a family that loved showbiz, Ed Sullivan, and crazy parties that stretched into the wee hours.

Paul started piano at age 6, and became good - fast. His parents steered him into a career in law, but music wouldn't let him go that easy. And he stumbled into a production called 'Godspell'. Some other people were in that show (maybe you've heard of Martin Short, Victor Garber, Andrea Martin, and Gilda Radner?).

Paul became the guy who could improvise on the keyboard and think fast on his feet. Suddenly, SNL wanted him. The Blues Brothers took him on tour. And before long, he landed on Letterman.

So what about us?! Paul's home this month hosting this year's ceremony for Canada's Walk of Fame.
