When Matt Johnson and a few buddies set out to make a film called The Dirties, they weren’t expecting much. Instead, they got a lot. How about a distribution deal with Kevin Smith (of Clerks fame) who called it “the most important film you will see all year.” An award at the Slamdance Film Fest followed and Matt’s career is in launch-mode. The movie — tragic, comic, provocative — explores bullying and school shootings. But more than that, it examines the powerlessness felt by its teenage protagonists and the need all of us have to find our voice and to be heard.
