Guest Mary Walsh

Mary Walsh is one of Canada's most enduring and fearless comedians. Her outrageous work on 'This Hour Has 22 Minutes' made her a household name.

'Macleans' magazine once called her alter ego 'Marg Delahunty', 'the bitch goddess of Canadian political satire'... quite the compliment for someone whose road to success was anything but easy.

Mary grew up on the Rock, the 7th of 8 kids to an alcoholic dad, and ended up being raised by an aunt - a painful beginning.

Mary soon adopted comedy as a survival tactic, and followed that path to success. Her first professional TV gig was a show called 'Up At Ours', followed by her work with the comedy troupe and TV show 'CODCO', before she hit it big with an idea she pitched to the CBC, 'This Hour Has 22 Minutes'.

Her character 'Marg Delahunty' earned her praise from viewers and the ire of politicians - kissing Harper, dissing Chretien, and confronting Sarah Palin.

During these years she took the time to overcome her alcoholism, joining AA. After that she hosted 'Mary Walsh: Open Book', directed her own feature 'Young Triffie's Been Made Away With', and starred in movies like 'Mambo Italiano' and 'New Waterford Girl'.

Mary was made a member of the Order of Canada in 2000, and has 18 Gemini awards.

Now she's back again, snagging a Genie nomination for her role in the film 'Crackie' - the story of an abandoned teenage girl looking for a better life on the Rock.
