If you're a fan of comedy, chances are you've been to a Yuk Yuk's. It's
an institution in this country, and the man behind it is Mark Breslin.
Born
and raised in Toronto, comedy has always been his calling. Back in
1976, Mark noticed the lack of performance space for stand up comics in
Toronto. So, he opened a one-night-a-week comedy club in the basement
of a community centre. His concept was a hit, and just like that, 'Yuk
Yuk's' was born.
Over the years, the chain has expanded across
the country and given a platform to scores of stand up comics - many of
whom have gone on to stardom. Guys like Jim Carey, Howie Mandel, and
Rick Moranis to name a few. Mark's also branched out to television,
producing shows like 'Late Night with Joan Rivers' and 'Friday Night
with Ralph Benmergui.'
Currently, Mark is a consultant on the hit
show 'Kenny vs. Spenny.' He's also the program director of 'Laugh
Attack' on XM Radio, and he's just written and narrated a new audio
book. It's called 'Yuk Yuk's Guide to Canadian Stand-Up.'
