Guest Kim Coates

Behold Saskatchewan. The Land of Living Skies. Of the great Tommy Douglas. And Kim Coates.

If you don't recognize the name, you'll surely recognize this face, because Kim's made a career of playing tough guys, villains and oddballs, and been in some of Hollywood's biggest movies, such as 'Black Hawk Down,' 'The Client' and 'Waterworld.'

The thing is, Kim never set out to be an actor. In fact, he'd never even seen a play until he studied drama at the University of Saskatchewan. But once hooked, he dove into theatre. At the Stratford Festival, he was the youngest 'Macbeth' ever, and he got to play the role that made Marlon Brando a star: Stanley Kowalski in 'A Streetcar Named Desire' ("Stella!"). To date, Kim's been in around 50 movies and done dozens of TV shows. And look, with that kind of output, not everything is going to be a winner. But even in a box-office bomb, such as 'Battlefield Earth,' Kim was really interesting.

Kim is picky, though, about the types of bad guys he'll play, and he's never wanted to be tied down to a series. But then along came the part of Tig Trager on the outlaw-biker drama 'Sons of Anarchy.' On the surface, Tig's a bit of a psycho, but Kim puts a lot of soul into the character, and it's finally getting him the recognition he deserves.
