How many athletes can you name that have served in the House of Commons, written five books and steered one of North America's largest sports brands. The list begins and ends with Ken Dryden.
With the Montreal Canadiens for eight seasons, Dryden won six Stanley Cups and five Vezina Trophies as the league's best goaltender. As the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi approach, Dryden revisits his own experiences with Russia during the 1972 Summit Series, which wasn't so much about hockey as it was a Cold War on ice.
As a hockey executive, Dryden showed the leadership that you'd want from your front office when the Maple Leaf Gardens became the centre of a stomach-churning sex abuse scandal. As a politician, he served as a Liberal cabinet minister under Paul Martin.
And as an author, there's The Game, one of Sports Illustrated's Top 10 Sports Books Ever. Now updated for its 30th anniversary, it's a book for discerning hockey fans... and those who like the Maple Leafs, too.
