Joseph Gordon-Levitt has had had some pretty amazing on-screen dads: John Lithgow, Dermot Mulroney, Daniel Day-Lewis and the boss himself, Tony Danza. It's enough to make you wonder who he calls on Father’s Day. So what’s the reason for Joseph having played so many sons? He's been around. Gordon-Levitt has been acting in films and on TV since he was just a little kid in shows like Family Ties, Dark Shadows and Angels In The Outfield.
Joe’s star took off in his teens on the hit series 3rd Rock From The Sun. Since then he’s been on an absolute tear, wooing Zooey Deschanel in 500 Days Of Summer and weighing up his chances as a young cancer patient in 50/50. Then there’s the total mind-freak that is Inception and The Dark Knight Rises, in which we were left to wonder if Joseph would be Gotham City’s next Robin.
Now Joseph’s got a smart film of his own and it’s his feature debut as a writer-director. Don Jon had its Canadian premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and Joseph plays the title character at the centre of the tale -- a bodybuilding, churchgoing, womanizing porn addict.
Don Jon is out September 27.
