Hannibal Lecter. Patrick Bateman. Walmart.
Seven years ago, Canadian professor and legal theorist Joel Bakan introduced us to a new kind of psychopath. His book, The Corporation, shed light on the dark world of pathological commerce, where corporate entities elevate their economic interests with no regard for legal rules or moral limits. It was published in over 20 languages, and was made into an award-winning documentary.
In his new book, Childhood Under Siege, Bakan argues there is astonishingly callous and widespread exploitation of children by big business. He calls out society's shameful failure to protect them, with parents unable to combat corporate-caused harm on their own. As a father of two, Bakan has a vested interest in how parents can regain influence in their children's lives, but warns it won't be easy.
