Guest Brett MacLean

Brett MacLean was a promising young NHL player.

A junior hockey star with the Oshawa Generals, Brett made his big-league debut in 2010 with the Phoenix Coyotes.

Then last July, his world was turned upside-down. During a pick-up game with friends, Brett suffered sudden cardiac arrest.

His life was saved by the quick action of his friends, who performed CPR and used the arena's defibrillator to shock his heart back into action.

And although his NHL career may be over, Brett is dedicated to raising awareness and making sure no pick-up games end in tragedy.

On Sunday, June 2, in Toronto, more than 13,000 cyclists will take part the Heart and Stroke Foundation's Annual Becel Heart & Stroke Ride for Heart.

The event raises money to support world-class research, healthy communities, healthy children and youth, and awareness and prevention.

There are three distances to choose from - 25, 50, or 75km. You can register by calling 416-486-RIDE (7433) or visiting rideforheart.ca
