If you’d rather not know what might have gone into that drive-thru burger you had for lunch, then you may want to stay clear of Fast Food Nation. The film is based on the best-selling non-fiction book, by Eric Schlosser, aimed to expose the franchise-restaurant industry. It made us consider: what we eat, where it comes from, and the labour that goes into it.
For more than 20 years as an investigative journalist Eric has laid bare worlds that often remain hidden. For example, the industrial food operations featured in the documentary Food Inc. in which he appeared with fellow author and activist Michael Pollan.
Most recently, Schlosser spent six years deep inside the world of nuclear weapons for his latest book: a hair-raising, minute-by-minute account of the heroic efforts to prevent the explosion of a ballistic missile in Damascus Arkansas.
The book is called: Command and Control: Nuclear Weapons, The Damascus Incident and the Illusion of Safety.
