Guest Chris Hegedus

Filmmakers D.A. Pennebaker & Chris Hegedus may not be household names like Martin Scorsese, or even Michael Moore... but make no mistake - their impact on the filmmaking world has been enormous. They've helped create a style of storytelling that has influenced a generation of documentary filmmakers.

A pioneer of "direct cinema", Pennebaker has made some of the most influential docs of the past 40 years, from 'Primary' (which looked inside the Democratic contest in Wisconsin between John F. Kennedy and Hubert Humphrey), to the legendary 'Don't Look Back' which captured Bob Dylan's 1965 tour of England.

Along the way, Pennebaker has filmed most of the most iconic artists of our time: Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and David Bowie. In the late 70s he teamed up with Chris Hegedus on a film about Norman Mailer... and eventually they got married! Since then she's co-directed the hit movie 'Startup.com', and 'Al Franken: God Spoke'.

Over the last 30 years, they've made films together focusing on subjects ranging from Depeche Mode to Carol Burnett to Bill Clinton (in their Oscar-nominated film, 'The War Room'). Their latest film is about 16 French chefs, battling it out for three days in an epic pastry contest, and it's called 'Kings of Pastry'.
