In 1995, Cheryl Strayed felt lost: her mom had died, quickly, from cancer. Her marriage unraveled. She even says she started using heroin. Cheryl knew she had to get her life back on track.
So at 26, she went on a grueling three-month hike along the Pacific Crest Trail, where she says she encountered everything from black bears and rattlesnakes to intense heat and dehydration. But even tougher was the mental and emotional journey.
Cheryl tells the story in her memoir, 'Wild' - a book that's taken her on a different kind of adventure. It's a national best-seller, the film rights have been optioned by Reese Witherspoon, and Oprah picked it to resurrect her latest Book Club.
