If you've seen 'Dreamgirls', then you know Anika Noni Rose's work. Not to mention her voice! And if you're a fan of musical theatre... well, you know that 'Dreamgirls' is just the tip of the iceberg.
Anika is truly a Broadway star. Growing up in Connecticut, she always loved music. In her freshman year of high school, she was cast in 'Fame', and that sealed the deal. She studied drama, and then set out for New York in 1999 - hoping to make it big.
Well, a few months later, she was on her way. She got cast in 'Footloose', and for a while, got steady work. Then, things got tough, and at one point, Anika was down to her last twenty dollars. But she turned things around, and eventually landed a lead role in 'Caroline, or Change' on Broadway. And in 2004, she won a Tony for it!
Now, Anika is starring alongside Jill Scott in TV's 'The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency.' And she's the voice of Tiana in the new animated movie 'The Princess and the Frog.' In fact, she's the first African American princess in Disney history.
