Guest Adam van Koeverden

Adam van Koeverden, Kayaker extraordinaire, and, in case you missed it, Adam is a two-time world champion. Oh, and a TWENTY-TWO time World Cup champion. And just for good measure, he's a SIXTY-SEVEN time Canadian champion. And just because that may not impress you enough, Adam has three -- THREE -- Olympic medals -- one in each colour.

Not bad at all for the self-professed "not terribly gifted" athlete. He discovered kayaking at the tender age of thirteen. It suited the kid who had trouble finding a sport that fit. And while Adam is an obviously serious competitor, in those early days, sport was also about fun, about a chance to play. And that's where Adam's current mission comes in. He works as an athlete ambassador with Right to Play. The group's mission is straightforward: give kids with tough lives a chance to play - from China to the West Bank to Rwanda...

And through the act of playing without worry, without conflict, even if it's just for a few hours, help these kids develop skills and bring change to their communities. Adam has shown Canadians that sport is serious work. But in his work with Right to Play, he's showing that serious work can also be child's play. And at the London Olympics, which start this Friday, Adam will once again show off his ability to play at the highest level.
