Before you go hunting for your perfect bridal gown, make sure you're equipped with these tips from fashion journalist Mana Mansour.

1. Have A Price In Mind

This way you won't waste time trying on a bunch of gowns out of your range, saving you from disappointment. Also, keep in mind that you'll need to factor in the cost of alterations, your veil, shoes, undergarments, and jewelry in your price as well.

2. Starting Early Is Key

It can be surprising to learn that a lot of dresses can take up to nine months to order in, and another few weeks for alterations. Plus you need at least two alteration appointments before the big day.

3. Don't Try On Too Many Dresses

Bridal salons recommend not trying on more than 15 dresses in one appointment. Anything more than that tends to lose the romance.

4. Maximize Your Time

Don't fall into the trap of feeling like you have to show everyone everything you placed in your dressing room. If you put it on and right away it feels wrong, move on to the next dress! This will save you a lot of time.

5. Shop Around

Shopping around will allow you to see what other stores have to offer, and you may even get better deals on the same dress. If you're still thinking about that one dress you tried on while shopping, then that's a great sign.

6. Buy A Dress That Fits You Now

This is important, even if you plan on hitting the bootcamp hard to lose 15 pounds before the big day. It's a lot easier — not to mention less expensive — to take a gown in, than to try to make a too-small dress work.
