Shoes for the Season

It's the time of year when our tootsies are begging to be free! Put away your boots and make way for your spring stable of shoes! Here to show us all that's new and fabulous in shoes is Karen Kwinter, Fashion Editor for Canadian Living Magazine.

Watch this segment in episode 182 now.

We all want to be well heeled. Generally, a height of 2" is the most universally flattering.  The width of the heel should be proportional to your body - stilettos are great for the willowy - while a stacked heel really anchors a curvier frame.

As with heel types, there are different shapes for your toe- from pointy, to round, to almond - the happy medium between the first two options.  A tapered toe is generally the most slimming, but if you want to reduce the severity of the point, an oval or almond toe is a great staple shape.  Try to avoid square toes as they abruptly stop the visual down the leg.

The Platform heel

Platform heels are not just a current trend, but allow you to wear high heels comfortably.  The platform on the front of the shoe evens out the extreme arch created when wearing high heels - allowing for improved comfort and balance when walking in your heels.

With a hidden platform the platform is behind the fabric of the shoe - so that only a close observer will know that you've got some help in your 4" stilettos!

The Kitten Heel

The definition of a kitten heel is one that is 1-2" in height.  The kitten heel has seen a resurgence after first ladies Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy have been seen strutting internationally.  Great for someone would love a little lift, but not the extra height that comes with a platform or sky-high stiletto.
