How to Break Out of Your Makeup Rut

When it comes to your beauty regimen, it's easy to get caught in a rut — if something works, why fix it? But beauty expert Christine Cho says that as the seasons pass, not only are makeup trends changing, but your skin is changing, too, and probably craving something new. So try out her simple tricks for updating your beauty routine:

Flawless Foundation

New Skin, New Routine

Christine says that as your skin changes, your go-to products should change, too. If you've recovered from acne issues, especially, you can use less cover-up for more even coverage.

1. Use less makeup but better products — Christine recommends Benefit Cosmetics' The POREfessional face primer. It fills in any pores, pits or creases you might have developed (for example, from acne scarring) and mattifies your face's texture.

2. Use foundation to smoothen out your skin — Christine recommends Elizabeth Arden's Flawless Finish Perfectly Satin foundation because it's very moisturizing and gives you that flawless finish.

3. Use concealer just for your problem spots — Only use it where you need it so it doesn't feel so heavy on your face. Plus, you'll save money this way!

BB Cream

Makeup Doesn't Need To Take Hours

Over the years we find ourselves getting busier and busier and before we know it, we're stuck with whatever gives us our desired results in the least amount of time. But if you've been doing your makeup the same way for decades, it's time to update your routine!

1. Use time-saving multitasking products — Christine recommends Garnier's Skin Renew BB Cream All-in-one Miracle Skin Perfector because it's one product that does so many things for your skin: hydrates, corrects wrinkles, smooths imperfections, protects, and evens out and brightens skin tone.

2. Try a new type of eyeliner — If you like the control of pencils but want to achieve the precise look of liquid, go with the happy medium: gel liner! You can apply a nice, defined line, or smudge it up for a smokey look. You can even easily erase it if you make a mistake.

3. Not so sure? Start with your lips — If these changes are a little drastic for you, start small. Try a bright-tinted lip balm because you might just like it! The smallest changes can give your look a big update.

Instant Glam

If you just have no time for anyting other than mascara and lip gloss but want to restore that glam to your routine, Christine says all you need is to add some glow.

1. Sweep on some bronzer — Adding a sun-kissed glow to your contour areas are an easy way to look healthy, vibrant, and young!

2. Lower waterline drama — A quick way to go from your day to night look is to apply some eyeliner to your lower waterline. Between leaving the office and heading to the restaurant for a date night, eyeliner is a subtle way to add drama and make your eyes pop. Tip: Make sure your eyeliner is balanced on both your upper and lower lashlines so it doesn't appear too piecey and graphic.
