In the Kit

Everyone wants to know what the pros are using, so we invited professional makeup artist Marcia Garnes to show us which products make the cut into her kit.

In the Kit

NARS Blush in Taj Mahal, $30

The vibrancy of Taj Mahal can be shocking because of its beautiful, blazing burnt orange colour, but Marcia says that it works for everyone.

"This shade is amazing for women with darker skin when dusted lightly as a bronzer. If you have fairer skin, dust some of your cheeks as blush. A little goes a long way with this product – so it's actually great value for money!"

This is one blush that will always be in Marcia's kit.

Sexy Motherpucker Lip Pumper by Soap and Glory, $22

The name and packaging of this lip plumper demands your attention. The product claims to have microspheres that explode in volume up to 10 times when they absorb moisture to make your lips go va va va boom instantly. Marcia isn't so sure of these claims.

"Within about a minute your lips start to tingle, with a mild burning sensation. There are natural plant oils infused to help increase blood flow."

Does it work? Not well enough, or long enough to make it into the kit!

CoverGirl Lashblast Clump Crusher Mascara, $8

The newest mascara in the CoverGirl lineup, this mascara is endorsed by music superstar Pink. It's called Clump Crusher and she claims it will add volume to your lashes and never go on clumpyl The bright green packaging is a bonus because it's so easy to find.

"The wand is curved and the bristles are short. The bristles don't grab too much product so it helps separate lashes instead of gumming them up together, which I love! The mascara wears beautifully. It doesn't flake over time, so it's great for contact lens wearers!"

This mascara is definitely getting added to the collection in the kit!

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser, $15

An interesting-looking foundation, it's the name and the little sponge on top that stops you in your tracks. It's supposed to erase wrinkles, fine lines and crows feet instantly. Who wouldn't want to erase the age right off your face?

"It comes in a tube, with a twisting mechanism that pushes the product through a sponge tip. It seems unsanitary to me. It applies nicely but no better than a traditional liquid foundation. I would prefer to use a makeup sponge and my existing foundation instead."

This foundation will not be added to the kit.

Sephora Cream Lip Stain, $14

This lip stain comes in standard lip gloss packaging, but claims to have a bold colour that lasts.

"This product was a happy surprise. The avocado oil adds a richness in texture that you don't get with other lip stains. This means more impactful colours and less of a mess from runny liquid. Lips also feel softer and more comfortable."

Great value for a great product. Your colour will last and for that reason this is a keep in the kit!
