Preschool in Retirement Home Brings Joy to Residents and Kids

A retirement home in Seattle, WA has become a particularly joyful space for its 400 residents — all because of a program that has brought a preschool into the building. The Intergenerational Learning Centre creates opportunities for the children and elderly residents to interact through crafts, storytelling and other activities.

What a wonderful idea. Evan Briggs is a filmmaker who is capturing the story of the ILC in his documentary Present Perfect.

“What can the very young and the very old offer each other if given the chance?” asks Briggs.

With the number of adults over 65 expected to double over the next 25 years, and the “sandwich generation” feeling more stretched between care for their young children and aging parents, these types of shared spaces could benefit the entire family.
