4 Ways to Use Leftover Wine


It may not be often we have leftover wine sitting around, but if the situation ever presents itself here are four ways you can repurpose it.


1. Make Spiced Wine Syrup

In a medium pot, still two cups of red wine, half a cup of sugar, a cinammon stick, two cardamom pods, one star anise and a pinch of salt. Bring it to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to low and simmer for about 18 minutes or until the liquid reduces by two-thirds and is syrupy.

2. Spike Your French Toast

Swap the milk or cream in your French toast recipe for sweet red wine. It's actually a Spanish tradition. Fry the egg and wine soaked bread in olive oil and top with cinnamon sugar or syrup.

3. Bait Fruit Flies

Pour a quarter of a cup of leftover red wine into a short glass, then cover tightly with a piece of plastic wrap. Use a toothpick to poke six holes in the wrap. The flies are attracted to the sugary substances and the carbon dioxide the wine emits, and will fly in through the tiny holes and become trapped. Hey, at least they go out happy!

4. Bathe In It

Pour a cup of red wine into your bath - the antioxidant compounds help soften your skin!
