There is a sweet surprise lurking in these witches' hats, says Canadian Living's Annabelle Waugh. Once you crack them open, it's just one magical treat after another.

Candy-Filled Witches' Hats

Ingredients

1 1/4 cups (300 mL ) black and/or green chocolate coating wafers, such as Merckens
12 sugar cones
2 cups (500 mL) assorted Halloween candies
12 chocolate wafer cookies
as needed assorted licorice rope, and candy for decorating

Preparation

  1. In microwaveable bowl, melt coating chocolate on high, stirring after 30 seconds, until smooth, about 1 minute.
  2. Fill sugar cones with Halloween candies. Using food-safe paintbrush or offset spatula, coat rim of each cone with chocolate; press cookie onto rim to make hat brim. Let stand on brim until set, about 3 minutes.
  3. Brush some of the remaining chocolate over cones to coat. Decorate with licorice and candies as desired, using remainingchocolate as glue. Let stand until set, about 10 minutes.
  4. Make-ahead: Store in airtight container for up to 4 days.
