Not-So-Traditional Tables

Traditional living rooms too often feel serious and stuffy. It's high time traditional lightened up, says designer Lisa Worth. A great place to start? The coffee table. Here are some of her fave fresh finds.

Lisa Worth shows off four fresh yet traditional coffee tables.

1. Wood Stained Table, Elte

The dark stain gives this table an easy versatility, while the high-gloss finish offers a touch of elegance. Though function and storage aren't usually at the forefront of the design plan in a formal living room, these pullouts are wonderful for entertaining.

2. Gold Iron, Elte

Though its gold finish and iron construction is typically traditional, the strength and squareness of its legs lend the table a more transitional air.

3. Barbara Barry for Henredon Oval Cloud Cocktail Table, at Studio B

Though silver leaf is a very traditional finish, the all-over application here sets this coffee table apart. Very glam, yet simple.

4. Barbara Barry for Henredon Parsons Cocktail Table, at Studio B

A waterfall table design is classic and timeless, yet always has an edge. While at first glance it may appear simplistic, the coffee table's mature lacquered finish adds subtle depth.
