Link of the Day: Home Reno Tax Credit

Today's link of the day is:

The Government of Canada's Home Renovation Tax Credit page

There are only 12 days left to acquire eligible goods!

If you've been putting off that bathroom reno or dying to copy that latest Deb on a Dime segment, now is the time!

Canada's Home Renovation Tax Credit applies to work performed or goods acquired during the period between January 27th, 2009 and February 1st, 2010 and it's for this year only! You can recieve a non-refundable tax credit of 15% on expenses between $1,000 and $10,000.

Find out what home reno expenses are eligible.

Why I like the Canada Revenue Agency site:

I worked as a financial writer for five years and the CRA was my go-to site for the simplest and most accurate and simple information about tax benefits, RRSPs, etc.

It's easy to navigate and all the information, forms and dates you need to know are in one place, along with support numbers for additional assistance.

If you're ready to get renovating, here are some retailers who can help you with your home reno plans:

  • Ikea Canada has created a page with renovation ideas to help you use the home reno tax credit in your favor.
  • The Home Depot had created an FAQ on the tax credit and on their "Tax Credit Top-Up Program"
