Tween Ice Cream Party

Looking for a tween birthday-party theme? How about an ice cream social? After all, I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! Use these tasty tips to transform your home into the ultimate party parlour!

Above, top right: cupcakes, Cake Star.

Turn takeout soup containers into personalized invites that look like pints of ice cream (follow links for templates). Label each with your guests' names and use the lid to provide party details. Then, inside, nestle a note in a bed of confetti asking guests to make a donation to the charity of your choice in lieu of gifts.

Nothing says ice cream parlour like an old-timey awning. You'll be surprised how easy it is to make one yourself out of inexpensive striped fabric, a curtain rod, dowel and personalized logo.

An ice cream parlour theme demands a colourful, whimsical palette. Brighten up your table with recyclable serveware in a rainbow of sherbet-coloured hues. Ice cream cones filled with flowers will only further the air of playfulness.

No tween party would be complete without fun activities to do with your friends. A sundae bar and cupcake-decorating station are perfect ways to keep guests busy and sated, while a DIY ice cream candle makes for a fitting favour.

This is one situation where less is definitely not more. In addition to the DIY cupcakes, stock your parlour with plenty of ice cream (natch) and every topping under the sun (e.g. sprinkles, cookie crumbs, candy, chocolate, etc.). Label each to further the theme.
