in

What young girl wouldn't love this DIY dessert? Whip up a couple candles on the weekend with your tween or serve them as party favours at an ice cream social. Too cute!

Materials

candle kit (full brick of wax, thermometer, ivory candle dye, beaker and candle wicks)
red candle dye
glass mugs
whisk
metal straw

Method

  1. Break up wax into small pieces and add to beaker.
  2. Place beaker in a large pot, filled with water. Bring to a boil.
  3. Melt wax and test temperature. Once wax has reached 190-200 F, add red dye to turn wax pink.
  4. Slowly pour pink wax into glass mug, about 3/4 of the way up. Set remaining wax aside.
  5. Repeat Steps 1-3; but add ivory and red dyes to create a lighter shade of pink.
  6. Let light-pink wax to cool for 15-20 minutes. Whisk wax until it froths up like whipped cream.
  7. Use a spoon to place the frothed wax on top of the cooled darker wax in the glass. Before wax has cooled completely, top with sprinkles and a metal (not plastic or paper!) straw.
  8. Form a cherry out of the partially cooled leftover dark-pink wax. Insert candlewick into cherry and place on top of frothed wax.
