How To Create A Bright, Modern Holiday Table This Year

This year, the big trend in holiday décor is to go bright, fresh and modern, with plenty of Scandinavian accents. Arren Williams, the Creative Director of Home at Hudson's Bay, shows us how to put it all together.

And here's a closer look at some of the details from the room.

1. The Colour

Don't be afraid to go bright this year! Here we've used Benjamin Moore's Peppermint Leaf (2033-20), which plays off the vibrant greens on the table.

2. The Art

We love statement art, and the holidays are the perfect time for it. These Celadon Studios birch tree prints bring a rustic touch and texture to the room, and are oh-so Canadian too.

3. The Dinnerware

The Sophie Conran Christmas dinnerware has a great handmade feel, and can be easily layered in with your regular white dinnerware.

4. The Table Decorations

Underneath the plates here are fun candy-striped paper placemats (which the kids can doodle on once they get bored of the adult conversations). Instead of napkins, the printed "Naughty or Nice" tea towels add a little whimsy to the look, and make a great gift for guests to take home (along with a mini gingerbread house in the middle of each plate).

5. The Centrepiece

You'll want to layer in different heights on your holiday table, and this centrepiece — back-to-back Nutcracker dolls — is the perfect way to achieve that. At the base of each Nutcracker are a pair of blocks with numbers on them, letting you count down the days until Christmas.

6. The Table and Chairs

This modern dining set is very on-trend, and makes a nice contrast with the vibrant tablescape. The bright red Lyla Arm Chair and natural oak dining table from EQ3 are simple and stylish, with clean lines.
