Get the Cabin Chic Look

There are always so many hot trends that start to surface as the temperature drops, and one of them that seems to be gaining more and more popularity is cabin chic. It's a look that takes the idea of a rustic cabin and gives it a more refined, modern spin. Decor expert Trish Johnston shares her tips on how to achieve this cozy winter look in your home.

Use salvaged barn board planks for your wall treatment

Salvaged barn board planks like these ones from Urban Tree Salvage are a wonderful way to achieve a rustic, warm look in a room. The planks are wide and are mounted horizontally for a more contemporary feel.

Use slipcovers

It's a good idea to use slip covered furniture in these environments because it's easy to wash and replace. A white linen slipcovered couch is practical and cozy and feels very relaxed. You can also use your existing furniture and simply cover it!

Layer it up. Go with unexpected textures.

Play with hard and soft textures to create balance and harmony in the room. The cowhide and Alpacha ottoman soften the hardness of the wood wall and console table. Mix the rugged with the refined/polished finishes.

Keep the colours neutral and add punches of colour with accessories

Use colour on your smaller pieces (throw cushions, art). That way you can change the way your room reads from season to season.
