This is the go-to site for all things food. Owned by Condé Nast, Epicurious.com's recipe database comes from Bon Appétit, Gourmet, and Self magazines as well as from professional and amateur cooks. You'll literally find every kind of recipe for every purpose and occasion.
We really like the Recipe Box tool, which allows you to save recipes from Epicurious and everywhere else on the web, kind of like Pinterest. A good place to start is their Top Rated Recipes section. You can also take Epicurious on the go by downloading the app, available for many types of devices.
For food inspiration, our favourite stop is this beautifully curated site, which is designed for the visual discovery of new recipes and the food bloggers who create them. Peruse the wonderful food photos and see what culinary adventure they lead you to.
You can also submit your own recipes for consideration, and if you're thinking of becoming a food blogger, check out these great tools for bloggers.
Allrecipes.com is another great site for tons of recipes and food articles and we're really into their fun and practical "Dinner Spinner" app, which allows you to search the site's huge database of over 40,000 recipes at random (if you're feeling adventurous) or by picking the ingredients you have on-hand and the amount of time you have to cook. Once you pick a recipe, you can view the ingredients, directions, nutritional info and user reviews.
This app offers a really fun way to get the kids involved in making their own meal choices. Before you go shopping for the week, pick meals and snacks for a week's worth of lunches with your kids, then use the grocery list that the app generates to shop with them. This should help you save money by eliminating things the kids don't really want and will help teach them about healthy meal planning.
Don't forget to check out our food section for all the great recipes our experts make on the show, as well as the websites of our favourite food shows: Best Recipes Ever and In the Kitchen with Stefano Faita.
Finally, we encourage you to visit CBC's Live Right Now website to participate in their latest health challenge for Canadian families: having healthy meals at home. Your participation can help feed families in need, plus they've got great recipes and tools to help your own family eat healther, starting now.
