Sharapova wins Quebec's Bell Challenge

Second-seeded Russian Maria Sharapova won the Bell Challenge tennis tournament in Quebec City Sunday when Milagros Sequera of Venezuela retired with an injured left ankle.

The 16-year-old Sharapova had captured the first set 6-2.

The victory marks her second career WTA title. She also captured the Japan Open championshp in October.

Sharapova advanced to the final after downing No. 4 seed Laura Granville.

Sequera, a gold medallist from the Pan Am Games, reached the final after upsetting former French Open champion Mary Pierce in the semifinals.
