Whitecaps' Camilo named MLS player of the week

Vancouver Whitecaps star Camilo was recognized for his heroics when he was named Major League Soccer's player of the week on Monday, becoming the first player in franchise history to win the honour.

Things just keep getting better for Camilo.

The Brazilian striker marked his first start in Major League Soccer on Saturday by scoring twice in injury time to help the Vancouver Whitecaps earn a 3-3 draw against visiting Sporting Kansas City.

On Monday, the Vancouver star was recognized for his heroics when he was named the league's player of the week, becoming the first player in franchise history to win the honour.

With his team trailing 3-1, Camillo, 22, scored his first goal for the club off a Davide Chiumiento pass before scoring the equalizer with a gorgeous far-post header from Nizar Khalfan to complete the Whitecaps' amazing comeback.

Real Salt Lake midfielder Javier Morales won the award last week, after Omar Bravo of Kansas City claimed the honour for the first week of the season.
