Toronto FC items hot sellers
Toronto FC may be a bust on the field, but not at the cash register.
Sales of Toronto FC merchandise are three times higher than any other Major League Soccer team launch, according to Adidas, the company that supplies the expansion franchise.
Not only has the team sold out its season-ticket base of 14,000 seats at BMO Field, but it has sold out of team replica Adidas products.
The first shipment of Toronto FC products hit the stores in February and March.
Even though demand far outdistanced supply, a fresh stock of products will be in kiosks at the stadium in time for Saturday's game between Toronto and the Chicago Fire (CBC, 3:30 p.m. ET).
Steve Ralph, vice-president of sales and marketing for Adidas Canada, said his company expected a good response but "nowhere near" what happened.
"We had a pretty good feel of where it would be because we've been a sponsor of the MLS for so long, and we'd seen all the other markets, how the product performed," Ralph told the Canadian Press.
Toronto lost its first four games of the season and is still searching for its first goal in franchise history.
