Ronaldo tells Real Madrid he's happy at Man U
Real Madrid might be prepared to break soccer's world transfer fee record to lure Cristiano Ronaldo away, but the Manchester United winger insists he's not interested in a move to Spain.
Spanish media reports this week suggested Real Madrid would consider tabling a $196-million Cdn offer to United for the services of the Portuguese star, who joined the English club from Sporting Lisbon in 2003.
Madrid holds the record for the biggest transfer fee in soccer history, paying Italian team Juventus $71.5 million for the services of Zinedine Zidane in 2001.
Ronaldo, 23, indicated he might one day be interested in moving to Spain to play with a top club such as Real Madrid, but said for the time being he's happy to stay in Manchester.
"I'm at the right club, playing with the right players and I learn things all the time," Ronaldo told United's pay-TV channel, MUTV.
"That's what's great about being at United. I improve all the time and I want to improve every season. I think I'm a better player now than five years ago."
Ronaldo has plenty of reasons to be happy in Manchester.
He has scored 41 goals in all competitions for United this season, helping the Red Devils win the Premier League for the second season in a row and reach the Champions League final against Chelsea in Moscow on May 21.
He's also the top candidate to win the FIFA world player of the year award that will be handed out by soccer's world governing body in December.
"This season has been a great one for me," he said. "I've scored a lot of goals, the team have played very well and we're champions. It's amazing."
