Canadian midfielder Dwayne De Rosario of the Houston Dynamo was named Major League Soccer's player of the week on Monday.

It is De Rosario's first weekly award this season and fourth overall.

De Rosario, from Scarborough, Ont., scored his first two goals of the season in Houston's 3-1 win over the Colorado Rapids on Saturday.

De Rosario, a seven-year MLS veteran, put the Dynamo ahead 2-1 midway through the second half as he unleashed a powerful shot to the upper left corner past Rapids goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul.

De Rosario scored an insurance goal with five minutes left in regulation, when he tapped in a pass from teammate Brian Ching.

Houston and Colorado are tied with FC Dallas for first place in the Western Conference.

The Dynamo's next game is May 16 against Toronto FC at BMO Field (7 p.m. ET).
