Diana Matheson out with torn knee ligament

Canadian midfielder Diana Matheson will be out of action indefinitely after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee.

She was hurt in a 3-0 loss to Japan last Saturday in Edmonton.

The Canadian Soccer Association confirmed the injury news today on Twitter.

Matheson scored the lone goal in Canada's 1-0 Olympic bronze-medal victory against France two years ago.

She says that she hopes to be back in time for the 2015 Women's World Cup next summer in Canada.
